Madari is a 100% custom bass. While many customers give you plenty of rope („Pot position? Do what you think is good!“), we discussed nearly every little detail on this bass. On the one hand it slowed down the building process sometimes but on the other hand this instrument couldn’t be more individual. And I think, the customer has a very good taste, because this bass is beautiful!
Madari is a multiscale bass which means that every string has its own scale (between 812.8mm [32“] on the g-string and 838,2mm [33“] on the E-string) which leads to fanned frets. Usually you do that to make a b string sound more powerful but in this case it is a matter of ergonomics: The fanned frets comply with the hands rotation over the fretboard. Other ergonomic details are the angled neck pocket (the E string side is 1.5mm higher than the g string side which makes fretting easier), the arm shaping is exactly in the angle of the players favorite arm position, the bass is well balanced and the high frets are easily accessable.
The Pickups are made by Harry Häussel . Each includes two singlecoils (in total 4 coils) in an ebony enclosure that is fanned like the frets. Between the pickups we made a maple ramp. You switch the two pickups at the same time with the 5-way-bladeswitch and blend them with a balance pot. The EQ/preamp is a „Flexcore“ by Michael Pope and is very flexible: We have a stacked pot with volume and passive tone, the balance pot, a treble pot, a bass pot and a stacked pot for two mid frequencies. You can change the mid frequencies via two of the miniswitches. The third switch is for passive use.
Congratulations to everyone who made it to this point and still knows what I am talking about. There is not much left to say. The bass is very flexible and the construction makes it sound rather like a long- than a medium scale instrument. Despite the HiFi components it has a lot of mojo. We are very satisfied!
